Abia Speaker promises to fix bad pitches in his constituency

Barrister Chikwendu Kanu,  Abia State house of Assembly Speaker  has reaffirmed his determination to develop football in Isiala Ngwa and the state by addressing the bad condition of pitches at the local government area.

Rt Hon. Kanu made the promise on Sunday during the final of Okezie Ikpeazu Unity Cup sponsored Ndubuisi Ezebuiro Foundation

The final took place at Amaku Nvosi Community Primary School in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State Nigeria.

The Speaker said the time has come to visit the bad condition of pitches in Isiala South with a view to correcting the anomalies and develop sports in Isiala Ngwa Local government area assuring that if Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, is re-elected, huge impact will be felt in all facets of the state.

He added that in the interim, the administration of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has done a good job despite the enormous responsibility he is saddled with.

Hon Kanu, stated that the five cardinal objectives of the state government has been religiously taken care of headlong urging the youth to continue to support Governor Ikpeazu for total development of Abia State to the envy of other states around and far beyond just as he used the medium to appeal to them to vote for the Governor and all People’s Democratic Party candidates in the 2019 polls.

The number three citizen of the state who said footballers especially youth have a huge role to play in every society, hinted that the future of the youth is paramount to this administration, stressing that it is the reason why the administration of Governor Ikpeazu is doing everything to change the story of the Abia youth, adding that there is neither winner nor loser in the competition as the two teams are from Amaku Nvosi Community.

Responding, the donor Elder Okechi Ezebuiro, thanked the speaker and the Abia State Government, for their support in making the tournament a success, informing that the two teams that played the finals, Amaku Nvosi Ward 1 and Amaku Nvosi Ward 2 will be merged to produce a team which will be representing Amaku Nvosi Community in any competition.

Presenting a souvenir to the speaker, the chairman Abia Comets football club, Victor Nwakanma, appreciated the presence of the speaker at the finals, appealing to him not to forget Amaku Nvosi youth, reiterating that they are the backbones of Amaku Nvosi.

Meanwhile,Amaku Nvosi Ward 1 who are the defending champions, defeated Amaku Nvosi Ward II 4-2 on penalties after playing out a goaless draw at regulation time. Amaku Nvosi Ward 1, had the opportunity of winning the match in the 90th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Amaku Nvosi Ward II defender was fouled for handling the ball inside his own penalty box. But they failed to capitalise on it as the ball was played straight to the safe hands of the Amaku Nvosi Ward II goal keeper who made some vital saves in the match.

With the victory, Amaku Nvosi Ward 1 has won the trophy back to back hence becoming the first Ward to lift the coveted trophy twice.
