Abia Set To Experience Enhanced Security Measures -CP

 

 

Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie says the state government is enhancing its security framework through a technology focused and cooperative strategy to combat crime and ensure public safety.


CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie who disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Security Meeting presided over by the Governor,Dr Alex Otti, stated that going forward, Abia State would witness greater and appreciable improvement in security following the security measures already put in place by the government.

The Police Commissioner noted that the Security Meeting comprising of the different Security Agencies in the state, had a comprehensive review of the security situation and added that there would be an improvement regarding security in Abia State.


He said; “We had a comprehensive review of the security situation and of course, we observed that the situation is stable.The situation of security has improved not withstanding the fact that of recent,we had some pockets of issues around kidnapping.

But then,we sat down, we brainstormed and all I can say with regards to security going forward is that by the time we come up with the measures that we discussed there,we will soon move in leaps and bounds in improvement regarding security in Abia State”,he said.

Despite acknowledging recent challenges related to kidnapping, CP Onwuemelie reassured the public that the overall security situation in Abia remains stable.

 

He expressed confidence that strategic measures discussed during the meeting would propel the state towards significant improvements.

 

Emphasizing the government’s commitment to leveraging technology in crime prevention, CP Onwuemelie highlighted ongoing efforts to install CCTV cameras in strategic locations, promising a more strategic deployment.


He stated, “There’s hardly any crime these days without technology involved. Similarly, technologies can be applied to deter and detect crimes and criminals.”

“You know these days there’s hardly any crime you commit without applying some technology,the same way,technologies can be applied or leveraged to deter as well as detect crimes and also criminals.

“So part of the robust measures that we will put in place and that are already being put in place must involve application of technology

Going forward, the state is already installing CCTV cameras in certain places and that is going to be done more strategically.Communication is going to be improved,There is so much that will be done with technology”, the Abia CP said.


Regarding the kidnapped University Don, Professor Godwin Emezue,the Commissioner of Police disclosed that security agencies including the police,DSS and the military are making concerted efforts to ensure he is rescued unhurt.

The State Commissioner of Police lauded the “Operation Crush”, for their efforts in securing the state, noting that the success recorded in the the Umunneochi and Uturu axis of the state, is as a result of their deployment.

 

CP Onwuemelie who underscored the collaborative efforts among security agencies, including the police, DSS, and military and revealed that joint forces have been deployed to address security concerns in the Umunneochi and Uturu axis, areas previously deemed challenging.

The Commissioner acknowledged the concept of crime displacement, a geographical shift in criminal activities, but assured residents that measures were in place to counteract this phenomenon. “We are already on our way to ensuring that we deal with that”, he said.
