2019: Abia REC urges politicians to eschew violence

Politicians have been urged to always eschew violence and ensure that they abide by the concept of Politics without bitterness in the course of carrying out their political campaigns.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner Independent National Electoral Commission, Abia state, Dr Joseph Ilo made this known during the unveiling of Notice of Election date form EC 60A at INEC office in Umuahia.

He enjoined political parties, stakeholders and the electorate to key into the concept of free, fair and credible election which is the mantra of INEC for the achievement of a resounding success in the 2019 general elections.

Dr Ilo noted that the Presidential and National Assembly election would be conducted on the 16th of February 2019, while that of the Governor and state Houses of Assembly would come up on 2nd of March 2019.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner also announced that the commission has so far registered over five hundred thousand new registrants in the ongoing continuous voter’s registration exercise in the state which has being extended to the end of August 2018.

Dr Iloh warned residents of the state especially youths not to allow desperate politicians to use them as agents of destruction during next year’s general election stating that the commission and security agencies are prepared to ensure that the full weight of law would be brought on anyone caught breaching the provision of the electoral act.
