The Premier Mayors of Abia State have reiterated their unwavering support for Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, pledging total commitment to his leadership and declaring their readiness to work towards his re-election in 2027.
The resolution was reached during a meeting of the Premier Mayors held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Ovu-Nwambuisi, Agbaragwu, in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, at the residence of their Chairman, Dr. Elelenta Nwambuisi Elele. The meeting focused on a review of the political and developmental direction of Abia State, as well as deliberations on issues of collective interest to the people of the state.

Rising from the meeting, the mayors unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Governor Otti, describing his administration as transparent, people-oriented, and results-driven. They noted that the governor’s leadership style and visible developmental strides across the state justified their continued loyalty and political support.
The Premier Mayors also called on all eligible Abians to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise, stressing that active civic participation is critical to deepening democracy and sustaining good governance in the state.

According to them, voter registration remains a vital tool for citizens to protect and advance the gains of accountable leadership.
On the role of opposition in a democratic setting, the mayors acknowledged the constitutional right of opposition parties and individuals to criticize government policies and actions.

However, they cautioned that such criticisms must be responsible, factual, and lawful. They advised against destructive, misleading, or inflammatory narratives, urging the opposition to engage constructively in ways that foster peace, unity, and development in Abia State.
The meeting also served as an opportunity for the Premier Mayors to express deep appreciation to the people of Abia State for their sustained support and confidence in Governor Otti’s administration. They encouraged residents to remain steadfast and supportive as the government continues its efforts to reposition the state for sustainable growth and development.

The Premier Mayors reaffirmed their unity and resolve to remain focused and committed to advancing the developmental vision of the present administration in the overall interest of Abia State.

Uche Wogu, Premier Mayor of Aba South LGA and now Aba Area Coordinator of the Abia State Harmonized Task Force; Sir Ide John Udeagbala, Premier Mayor of Aba North LGA and current Board Chairman of the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA); Dr. Eric Egwuibe, Premier Mayor of Obingwa LGA and Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Budget and Planning; Hon. Osinachi Nwaka, Premier Mayor of Ikwuano LGA and Director-General of the Abia State Ministry of Finance Incorporated; and Chief Joe Ezearu, Premier Mayor of Arochukwu LGA and a member of the Abia State Local Government Service Commission.

COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MEETING OF THE PREMIER MAYORS OF ABIA STATE ON THE 7TH OF FEBRUARY 2026
The Premier Mayors of Abia State today held a meeting at the residence of the Chairman, Dr. Elelenta Nwambuisi Elele,,to review the political and developmental direction of the State and to deliberate on matters of common interest to Abians.
After exhaustive deliberations, the meeting resolved as follows:
1. UNWAVERING SUPPORT FOR THE GOVERNOR: The Premier Mayors unanimously reaffirmed their total and continued support for His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and pledged their full commitment to working towards his re-election in 2027, in recognition of his transparent, people-focused, and results-driven leadership.
2. CALL FOR CIVIC PARTICIPATION: The Premier Mayors strongly encouraged all eligible Abians to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR)exercise, stressing that civic participation remains fundamental to sustaining good governance and democratic progress in the State.
3. RESPECT FOR CONSTITUTIONAL OPPOSITION AND CALL FOR RESPONSIBLE CRITICISM: The Premier Mayors acknowledged that the opposition has a constitutional right to criticize any government in a democratic society. However, such criticism should be exercised within the limits of the law, guided by facts, civility, and the overall interest of the State. The opposition is therefore advised to refrain from destructive, misleading, or incendiary criticism, and instead engage constructively in ways that promote peace, unity, and development in Abia State.
4. APPRECIATION TO THE PEOPLE OF ABIA: The Premier Mayors expressed profound gratitude to the good people of Abia State for their consistent support, trust, and confidence in the leadership of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, and urged them to remain steadfast as the administration continues to reposition the State for sustainable growth.
The Premier Mayors reiterated their resolve to remain united, focused, and committed to advancing the developmental vision of the present administration in the collective interest of Abia State.
