The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party in Abia State, led by Rt.Hon Alwell Asiforo Okere, has moved to reconcile aggrieved members of the party in Arochukwu Local Government Area.
Speaking when the State Working Committee of the PDP visited Arochukwu Local Government Area for the ongoing Sensitization cum Familiarization tour to the 17 LGAs of the state, Rt Hon Okere, urged Arochukwu stakeholders to sheath their sword and come together to form a force ahead of the 2023 general elections.
According to the Party chairman, Arochukwu Local government is a very important area, hence the need to address any existing crisis that is capable of denying the party victory come 2023.
Rt.Hon Alwell Asiforo Okere, disclosed that the essence of the familiarization visit was to unify the party in Arochukwu and as well recover all lost grounds, especially the seat of the Arochukwu State Constituency that has eluded the party for three consecutive times.
“It is our responsibility to reconcile the party.The State exco will not leave you until these issues are resolved.
“We need your cooperation to bring out unity in your diversity.We assure you that before the elections,the issues will be over”,he stated.
Reacting to the issue of zoning raised by the former Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Sen Mao Ohuabunwa, the Party chairman stated that the party is still undergoing consultations and has not zoned the governorship seat to any section or zone in the state.
He, however, assured all those aspiring for various positions, a level playing ground,fairness and justice come 2023.
In his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Arochukwu LGA, Hon Prince Dan Kalu, extolled the leadership of the party in the state for initiating the tour across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, which he described as timely, strategic and historic and would among other things create an interface between the State Working Committee and other members of the party.
He, however, applauded the leadership quality of Rt.Hon Alwell Asiforo Okere, which he said has brought total peace and unity in Abia PDP, pledging their unflinching support to the party.
The LGA chairman also reeled out his achievements in the area to include, the ongoing construction of a storey building for the chairman’s office, construction of water borehole at the council headquarters, the construction of water borehole at Idima Abam, grading of Amaelu-Ndi Ememe Abam road, grading of Isu Community road and Atani Abam road, provision of hospital equipment at Amaeke Abam health center, through the office of the Governor among others.
In their remarks,the Commissioner for Cooperatives and Poverty Reduction,Mazi Donatus Okorie, Deputy Chairman of Arochukwu LGA, Hon Cletus Nwankwo, the former Transition Committee chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Dr Okoroafor Okoreaffia and the former PDP LGA chairman, Hon Obinna Nwankwo, commended the party for the tour, stating that it would help the party at the grassroot level move forward, beckoning on the leadership of the party to help resolve the crisis ravaging the party in the area.
Contributing, the former member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Dr Samson Orji, informed the State exco that there is a monster steering Arochukwu PDP at the face.
Explaining further, Dr Orji revealed that whatever plants seed of discord among members of the party,fans the embers of disunity and whatever does not allow the party reward loyalty accordingly is a monster that needs urgent attention so that the party can clinch to success and victory come 2023.
Also,the PDP Abia North Zonal Chairman, Hon Amah Abraham, intimated the party of the brewing conflict in Arochukwu,which he said gave way for the three times lost of the State House of Assembly seat.
Hon Abraham appealed to Ndi Arochukwu to swallow their pride and come together to regain their lost seats.
He further appealed to the Federal government through the State government to intensify action in the ongoing construction of Arochukwu-Ohafia road, lamenting that the people of Arochukwu now access their villages through the back door.
In his speech, Sen Mao Ohuabunwa, called for all hands to be on deck,so that the area can recover what it lost in the last election.He urged the party to follow strictly the zoning formula that makes for equity and peace.
In an interview, the Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency, Hon Uko Nkole,said they would keep making efforts until peace is restored in Arochukwu.
While listing his projects in the area, the Lawmaker assured his constituents of more dividend of democracy, commending the PDP in the state for criss-crossing the length and breadth of the state, stressing that no other political party has the capacity or the level of unity to carry out a uniform movement in the name of a party tour.
The Provost of Abia State College of Education (Technical) Arochukwu,Dr Philips Nto, described the tour as one that would help unify and strengthen the party.
He stated that Arochukwu is a PDP area but due to some mistakes that were self inflicted,like imposition, the area lost its seat in the State House,as well as the senate seat.
Dr Nto also used the opportunity to reel out his achievements at the Abia State College of Education Arochukwu,since he came on board as the provost of the school.
According to him, he introduced the policy formulation board of the school,built the school of Arts/Social Sciences,built the school library which is rated one of the best in the comity of Colleges of Education,built the school of Vocational education,procure visual equipments among others.
Also,the PDP flag bearer for the Arochukwu State Constituency in the 2019 elections, Hon Prince Eric Aso Kalu, stated that reconciliation is very paramount, particularly now that activities are building up,ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Hon Eric Aso Kalu also stated the need for all PDP stakeholders in Arochukwu to come together and chat a course of peace,so that come 2023,it would be PDP all the way.
Similarly, an illustrious son of Arochukwu, Mr Tony Kalu,while fielding questions from journalists, noted that he is committed to the peace of Arochukwu and would contribute his quota to achieve the needed peace.
Meanwhile,Tony Kalu, commended the visionary leadership of the Abia state PDP, led by Rt.Hon Asiforo Okere, stating that if the party continues in his vision, they would regain the Governorship seat and every other line up in the 2023 polls.
