The people of Umuajuoha Obuzor Umunneato autonomous Community in the oil producing area of Ukwa West Local Government Area (LGA), Abia State, have applauded the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti for the reconstruction of their Market “Ahia Orie” which has been in a dilapidated state for many decades.
Addressing the news men during a visit to the site of the market, the President General of the community, Chief Slyvanus Nwazue Ogbuji, who disclosed that the joy of the people over the reconstruction of the market knows no bounds also noted that it has rekindled the hope of the people in governance and made them have sense of belonging.
The President General regretted that the community had been neglected by the past administrations in the state and thanked Governor Otti immensely for remembering them as well as commended the General Manager of Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), Dr.Joshua Onyeike for bringing development to the area, assuring that the market will be properly utilized and protected.
Also speaking, an Elder of the community Mr. Chimaroke Young Chigbuji and some market women, Mrs Comfort Nwachukwu and Nwadiuto Elele expressed deep gratitude over the market and commended ASOPADEC for intervening in the market and pointed that the market occupies strategic position in the socio- economic development of the area and its neighboring communities.
The contractor handling the project, Mr. Uchenna Chigbu, who said that the specification of work in the market is reconstruction of 14 number unit of 10 open stalls totaling one hundred and fourty open market stalls, expressed hope that the reconstruction of the market will bring positive development to the people.
Mr Chigbu, however, thanked the Commission for not only awarding the contract to him but for consistently releasing funds for the project and promised to deliver quality work as specified.
