Abia Ministry of Environment Poised To Desilts Drainages, Talk Tough On Environmental Defaulters

Abia state Government has completed plan to embark on desilting of blocked drainages to avoid further flooding in affected areas of the state.

The Commissioner for the state’s ministry of environment, Mr. Tony Nwamuo, reveals the plan to newsmen in Umuahia North Council Headquarters, at the conclusion of the states monthly environmental exercise.

The commissioner who was represented by a director in the ministry, Mr. Ikechukwu Ukaegbu, advised residents desilting there own drainages to liase with the ministry for immediate assistance in carting away debris scooped from the drainages to avoid a fall back into the drainages.

On the environmental exercise, Ikechukwu, said that the residents are trying but there is room for improvement and warned defaulters to desist from their acts or face discipline with the court.

However, the director explained that the challenge the ministry had is operational but are under review to get the best of environmental cleanliness for Abia residents.
