Local Government (LG) workers in Abia State have commended Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for prioritizing their welfare and fulfilling his campaign promises. In recognition of his achievements, they have endorsed him for a second term in office.
The endorsement was unanimously announced by members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Ukwa East, Ukwa West, and Ugwunagbo; led by their Chairmen—Mr. Felix Nwagbara, Mr. Nana Emeka, and Mrs. Vine Dike—during the official visit of the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Elder James Ebere Nwokochah, and his team of Commissioners to the council areas.
The union leaders applauded Governor Otti for restoring regular salary and pension payments, a gesture they described as unprecedented in the state’s history. They emphasized that their endorsement was driven by a moral obligation to support a leader who has consistently prioritized the welfare of workers and retirees.
Earlier in his address, Elder Nwokochah reaffirmed Governor Otti’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare, particularly at the grassroots level. He lauded the Governor’s people-centered policies and infrastructural strides across the state.
He also urged council staff to remain professional, dedicated, and neutral in the discharge of their duties, stressing the importance of integrity in public service. The LGSC Chairman warned against corruption and partisanship, stating that the Commission would maintain a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.
Responding to concerns over delayed promotions, Elder Nwokochah called for patience, assuring workers that the Governor remains committed to resolving all outstanding issues affecting their welfare.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner 1 in LGSC Barr. Jerry Uzosike, has called on local government workers to throw their full support behind Gov. Alex Otti’s transformative initiatives across the state. He emphasized that sustained support from the grassroots workforce is crucial for the Governor to continue delivering meaningful development and good governance to the people of Abia.
Contributing, the Permanent Secretary in LGSC, Dr. Princess Ezinne Ngwakwe, charged LG workers to uphold the highest standards of integrity, ensure accountability in the management of public resources, and remain responsive to the needs of the citizens at the grassroot.
In her words: “Let your work reflect the true spirit of public service—driven by passion, diligence, and a genuine desire to build a better future for all.”
The Mayors of Ukwa West, Ugwunagbo, and Ukwa East—Pastor Dike Nwankwo, Hon. Iheanacho Wagbara, and Hon. Chibunna Akara, represented by the Secretary to the Local Government (SECLOG), Pastor Iheanyi Adindu—welcomed the LGSC Chairman and pledged continued support for the Governor’s transformative agenda under the “New Abia” mantra.
Heads of Service of Ukwa East and Ugwunagbo LGAs, Mr. Emeka Akparanta and Mr. Ekenta Henry respectively, expressed appreciation for Governor Otti’s achievements in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and security. They reaffirmed their commitment to upholding service standards and supporting the administration’s vision for a better Abia.
Also present at the event were LGSC Commissioners; Hon. Allen Wogu, Dame Ngozi Nwagbara (PhD), Dr Godwin C Duru, and Engr Oji Uka Kalu (PhD) among others.
