The Lawmaker Representing Aba North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly,Hon Aeron Uzodike has expressed satisfaction over the just concluded Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency Bye Election, commending the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) for conducting a peaceful and credible exercise.
Hon Uzodike who made this known to Newsmen at his residence, said the just concluded Bye election conducted by the INEC, could be described as the most credible, because Aba people had the opportunity of voting their choice.
“Like every other election, the Aba election was not free of challenges,as the issue of card reader malfunctioning, low turn out, among other issues played out”,the Lawmaker noted.
In the case of the low turnout among eligible voters, Hon Uzodike revealed that so many people do not place much importance on Bye elections as compared to general elections, also voters could have decided to stay off the Aba bye election because the late member, Ossy Prestige, whose seat is to be replaced, has not been buried.
“Conducting an election to replace a late house member that has not been buried, can cause voter aparthy”, he said.
However, the lawmaker, described the just concluded bye election as the most peaceful, with no casualty or violence recorded in any polling station.
He added that in his unit, the exercise went smoothly with the People’s Democratic Party taking the day with 139 votes against 10 votes for the APC and 3 for APGA.
Uzodike further congratulated the PDP family and as well their candidate,Hon Chimaobi Ebisike, for emerging the winner of the Aba Bye Election,to represent the constituency at the National House of Representatives,Abuja.
Similarly, a PDP chieftain in Ariaria ward nine,Hon Iheanyi Ukaegbu, expressed satisfaction over the peaceful exercise, congratulating Hon Chimaobi Ebisike for the victory.
Tony Agbahim,a former PDP councillor of Osusu ward, praised the INEC as well as the voters for a peaceful conduct, stating that why voter aparthy played out in his unit, could be as a result of people loosing confidence in the government, stressing that over time, elected governments have not been able to deliver maximally on their promises to the people. So the voters nolonger see electoral processes needful, since they do not benefit anything from government.
For Okechukwu Odoemenam,a PDP ward chairman in Osusu ward four, expressed joy that his party took the day.
