Torrents of criticism and mixed feelings have been trailing the empowerment of a constituent with a motor-cycle by the Member representing Obingwa West State Constituency Hon. A.C. Thomas Nkoro.
But Hon.Nkoro, who is also Chairman,House Committee on Education has offered a timely explanation and clarification.
“May be you have been sleeping.
We have been carrying out our empowerment programmes. This was just a gesture to help Security matters in my immediate community. It’s in no way an empowerment programme.”
The former Zonal Treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been the talk of the day following a post by a critical constituent who was irked by the celebration of a Q-Link Motorcycle he gave out as part of “Constituency Empowerment Project”.
Mr Augustine Akomas,nephew of former Abia Deputy Governor (Dr Chris Akomas) co-founder Abia Media Scholars and Special Assistant on Media to Former Sole Administrator of ASOPADEC,Bar. Henry Chilaka,wrote on his Time Line (TL) few hours back :
“Hon.Thomas Nkoro, the member representing Obingwa West, in the Abia State house of Assembly, empowered the Youth president of Ossa Ukwu with a Motorcycle.
“This is his first empowerment after two years in Abia State House of Assembly, representing the good people of Obingwa West.
“Don’t worry, we shall show you the way in 2019.
“This deceit must stop in Obingwa West State Constituency in 2019.
“Thank you sir, for showing us your scorecard.
Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, can never be represented again by an over-aged and an non-performing House Member”
ABIA GAZETTE reports that while many commentators have been quite hard on Hon.Thomas Nkoro despite his prompt clarifications,not a few have also risen in his defence.
Unapologetically against Nkoro’s ‘gift’ is
Chief Azubike Erondu,who has openly declared interest in his office come 2019. The Security Consultant and native of Azuogwugwu Umuaro Mgboko Umuanunu Ward 3) Obingwa West Constituency commended Augustine Akomas,while predicting Hon.Nkoro’s next empowerment would be a bicycle !!!
“Very good one Augustine. You can see the kind of selfish leaders we have.His next empowerment will be bicycle…….. To God be the glory….”
One Egwuibe Rich Chigozirim did’nt
take it lightly with those celebranting Nkoro’s motorcycle gift.
“I’m ashamed of you guys,a whole House of Assembly member,giving a motorcycle to youth president and you guys are dinning and wining via celebration. Iheree mee unu (shame on you all) Dis calls for “tufiakwa”.
Tell him his representing his family and Village. Nonsense.”
“That’s what our youths deserve!!! Come 2019,they will still roll out in numbers to vote him in again after he must have given them paltry envelopes. Who is deceiving who? He should have given them wheelbarrow sef”, Social Media Personality,Nwanyi Ngwa also reacted.
For Iyke F Nwagbaoso,
“If you want to give people something give better thing. What is motorcycle? How much is his one month salary? If you don’t want to give anybody any thing, pls remain silent like others not bike of 100,000 thousand .
Odinakachukwu Emmanuel wrote:
“Hungry politicians he want for his personal business not for the betterment of obingwa west or because of me and you he want they for his personal interest wat has he done for his constituency for two years now all he has to do for youth leader is to empowered him with Okada am laughing my because we don’t have a visionary leaders”.
One Prince Chinedu Joel got harder on the embattled gentleman lawmaker.
He said:
“Anybody that is planning to vote Nkoro again in 2019 is an enemy of progress,we need progress in Obingwa West”.
Hon.Nkoro’s supporters have however, come for those critical of his motorcycle donation. For instance, a Constituent and Public Affairs Commentator Matthew Enyinnaya Clinton fired the first salvo to silent the opposing views.
“Distinguished Honourable Thomas Nkoro, Chairman house committee on Education & member representing my humble self in State house assembly has done well. He has done empowerment program in Obingwa West where our amiable firstlady supported the program with skill acquisition facilities. I can remember vividly well that d same empowerment program was held in Obingwa East by Hon.Solomon Apkulaonu which was also supported by our mother Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu. Akomas the author of this propaganda has an agenda he is not telling us. My Distinguished Senior in d Media Prince Clinton Uba has also layed d facts before us. This propaganda is dead at arrival. #ISTANDWITHNKORO“,he summed up in a comment he forwarded to ABIA GAZETTE this morning.
Also to Hon. Nkoro’s rescue is a former Ward 4 TC Councillor,Hon.Nnamdi Osuji.
“He never did any empowerment but gave out a motor cycle to his village youth for patrolling on security duties.You guys should be informed.
“Akomas,you have made up your mind to castigate a man with a good heart.Have you not seen or heard about other things he did in the past?Since the creation of Obingwa West, can you tell me the House Member who has done more than him?Try to the best of your ability to respect yourself so that others will do same to you when ur time comes.Stop yourcheap propaganda.”
“I don’t think that is bad for somebody to appreciate his youth leader.Mind the way you talk because tomorrow maybe your turn. You don’t judge anybody. Tomorrow you may need his assistant.”
With more and more commentators flaunting their solidarity for a first-time lawmaker they are convinced has done very well in two years in the House, Chioma Juliet Chidiebere scolds his critics,calling them habingers of
“Fake News”.
“Hon. NKORO only appreciated his ward chairman and not empowering be informed. All this fake news disseminates. You were not there. You see pictures on Facebook and start spreading fake news”.
Political pundits say beyond the claims and counter claims/rantings going on here,what is really at stake is the soul of Obingwa West State Constituency ahead 2019.
