Abia Lawmaker appeals to State govt to reopen closed school

Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Jerry Uzosike, has appealed to the State government to lift the embargo of operation it placed on Ambassadors college at Ubakala in Umuahia South Local Government Area of the State.

 

Uzosike who made the appeal  while briefing newsmen today, disclosed that he was aware that the State Ministry of Education closed down the secondary school on the issue of infraction by the security men of the school who allegedly prevented Education inspectors from gaining access to carryout their official assignment in the school and noted that the future of the students, his constituents, is in jeopardy.

 

While condemning the act of the security men and the Proprietor against the government, the Lawmaker, described it as unlawful and appealed to the authorities of the State Ministry of Education to pardon their shortcomings for the sake of the children who he lamented had not written their terminal exams since the school was shut down in July 2, this year.

Uzosike further attested that the school has a good learning environment and facilities with quality teachers which according to him qualifies the school for operation adding that the several petitions he had received against the institution were unfounded and malicious.

 

Meanwhile, the Proprietor of the college, Mr. Obinna Onyekwere  disclosed that their actions were not deliberate as they did not receive any formal notice from the State Ministry of Education prior their inspection to the school but however tendered his unreserved apology to the State government.

Also, the senior prefect of the school, Miss Anointing Chinwendu, appealed to the State government to pardon the school authority for their wrongs and reopen the school to enable them write their exams.
