Abia State House of Assembly has urged the Executive arm of its government as a matter of urgency to comply with its own part of agreement to enable the construction of the proposed Inland Container Depot in Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of the State takes off.
The State government was also directed to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Transport to ensure the take off of the project.
These were some of the resolutions made by the 7th Assembly in a matter of urgent public importance raised by member representing Isiala Ngwa North Constituency, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe during plenary today.
Earlier in his presentation at the floor of the house, Hon.Onwusibe noted that the Federal Executive Council had in 2006 approved the establishment of a dry port in the State but regretted that hitherto, construction was yet to commence on the proposed site.
The lawmaker, who mentioned some of the benefits of the project when realized to include provision of employment opportunities and revenue generation noted that investigation revealed that the State government is yet to carryout its own part of the agreement as regards the construction and establishment.
Supporting the motion, the member representing, Umuahia South Constituency, Hon. Jeremiah Uzosike and member representing Ohafia North, Hon. Mandela Obasi called for urgent measures to be taken to commence construction, as the project when completed would also boost the revenue base of the state.
