The Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, has received the newly elected executives of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Abia State Chapter, during a courtesy visit to his office. The team was led by the State Chairman, Comrade Ralph Nwachukwu.
Prince Kanu congratulated the new executives on their election and described it as a call to greater service and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to excellence, credibility and effective communication in the state.
The Commissioner said public relations professionals play an important role in shaping public opinion, improving government and citizen engagement, and ensuring accurate information dissemination. He added that under Governor Alex Otti, the state’s information system is being repositioned to promote transparency and accountability.
He assured the NIPR of the Ministry’s readiness to work with the Institute in areas such as training, professional development and promoting ethical standards among Information and Public Relations Officers in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Sir Chris Onwuegbu, also praised the new NIPR executives and stressed the importance of professionalism in public communication, especially in the digital age. He commended Governor Otti for approving the payment of 2023 and 2024 leave allowances, saying the gesture has boosted workers’ morale.
Earlier, Comrade Nwachukwu said the visit was to introduce the new executives and seek partnership with the Ministry to strengthen strategic communication in Abia State. He pledged the Institute’s support and commitment to professionalism and ethical standards.
In a vote of thanks, Sir Chinkwe Ikenyi appreciated the Commissioner for receiving the team and assured him of the Institute’s continued support.
The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to work together to improve communication and professional standards in Abia State.
