Abia House resumes plenary

After a long break of recess embarked upon by the Abia State House of Assembly and its resumption of Plenary sessions on October 15, 2018, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kalu, had welcomed the State Lawmakers and charged them to remain resolute in their commitment to law making in the State.

While thanking God for successfully bringing them back from their respective endeavors and the recently concluded Party Primary elections, the Speaker, congratulated his colleagues who emerged as candidates of their Parties to run for the 2019 general polls especially those who clinched the PDP tickets to work hard for the interest of the people they are representing and the Party at large.

He, however, consoled the serving lawmakers who lost out in the Primary election to remain focused in their legitimate jobs of lawmaking and encouraged them keep on trusting in God and be loyal to the administration on ground and the Party adding that Politics is not a do or die affair.

Following the proceedings of the plenary, the House received, a letter from the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, forwarding names of Dr. A.C.B Agbazuere as the General Manager, Abia State Passengers Integrated Manifest and Safety Scheme, ASPIMSS, and former members of the House of Assembly, Hon. Kingsley .O. Mgbeahuru as General Manager of Abia Line Network Transport Company, and Rt. Hon. Chinedum Elechi, as Commissioner appointee, requesting the House to consider them for screening.

The Lawmakers, however, adopted the letter as a working documents thereby resolved to screen the appointees in the next Legislative day.

In another development, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kalu, visited the victims of the Osisioma Pipeline fire outbreak that occurred recently.

The Speaker Abia state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kalu says the state House of Assembly will do all within its powers to save the lives of those affected by the recent pipe line fire outbreak in Osisioma Ngwa LGA.

Mr. Kalu, who gave the assurances when he visited some of the victims of the incident currently receiving treatment at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, ABSUTH, Aba, tasked the management of the hospital on give serious attention to survivors with a view to achieve the best results and frowned at some obvious inadequacies observed.

The Lawmaker, described the situation as sad and tragic, and assured that he would engage all relevant authorities to get to the root cause of the incident to forestall any such occurrence in the future.

He wished those affected speedy recovery while commiserating with all those who lost their family members and loved ones in the unfortunate incident.

Conducting the Speaker round the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital where some of the victims were receiving treatment, the Chief Nursing Officer on duty, Mrs Agnes Onyekachi – Chigbu, pledged their readiness to do everything professionally possible to revive the victims under their care.

Our reporter gathered that two out of the four victims admitted in the hospital had at the time of the visit passed on.
