Abia Govt To Rebuild Police Facilities Destroyed During EndSARS Protests

 

 

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has said that his administration will  commenced immediate rebuilding of some of the facilities belonging to the Nigerian police which were destroyed during the EndSARS Protests.

 

 

Governor Ikpeazu stated this when he received a delegation of the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police at Government House Umuahia.

 

 

Recall that some facilities belonging to the Nigerian Police Force including Vehicles and some Police stations in parts of Abia State were destroyed by hoodlums who hijacked the hitertho peaceful EndSARS Protests from youths across the country.

 

 

The Governor while commiserating with the Nigerian Police Force for the wanton destruction of properties belonging to the force, expressed optimism that the law will catch up with the perpetrators of the crime.

He noted that his administration is prioritizing response to the issues concerning security and the police force inspite of paucity of funds with the some aim of equiping the police force for efficient community policing of the state.

The Governor said his administration has given support to officers who lost their lives during the protests as well as provided alternative means of livelihood for their spouses to ensure that their families are well taken care of.

He said the state government in addition to building an office complex for the Zone 9 Police Force to enable them operate under a condusive environment, also set up the Crime Prevention And Management System; a digital policing platform as well as the state Homeland Security Watch to assist and complement the efforts of the Police in protecting lives and properties of the citizenry.

Ikpeazu who restated his administrationt’s support to the Nigerian Police to reduce crime in the society, further solicited support and prayers for the NPF to enable them perform their constitutional duty.

 

Governor Ikpeazu while commending the efforts of the Nigerian Police Force in community policing initiative despite challenges faced, thanked the IGP for the visit which he said will serve as a morale booster for police officers.

Earlier in his speech, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar said he came to Abia on a working visit, haven been to other states of the South East region as a result of the hijacked EndSARS protests which saw to the destruction of police facilities across the country.

 

He thanked Governor for supporting the police force adding that it will encourage them to perform their constitutional duty of protecting lives and properties assuring that the officers and men will not shy away from their duties.

According to the police boss, the force will henceforth not allow violent protests across Nigeria.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu and other dignitaries.
