Abia Govt To Flag Off Construction Of 25Km Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road Next Week

The Abia State Government will, on Friday next week, flag off the construction of the 25-kilometre Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road and the 13.1-kilometre Ariam–Usaka Ring Road in Ikwuano Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Other roads scheduled for flag-off at a later date include the 9.35-kilometre Ihechiowa–Arochukwu Ring Road, the 4.9-kilometre Isieketa–Mba Itungwa–Mgbedeala Road, and the 3.72-kilometre Avo Umuogidi–Umuala Eziama Ntigha Road in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.

Prince Kanu explained that the projects are designed to further open up rural communities, stimulate economic growth, and enhance connectivity across the state.

“These roads, when fully constructed, of course, will open up those corridors where they are located to further development and business activities in the state,” he said.

Prince Kanu also announced that Abia State will join the rest of the world on 15th October to commemorate this year’s World Food Day at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.

The Commissioner emphasized that the global event, themed “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” aims to highlight the importance of collaboration in building sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food systems.

Prince Kanu urged stakeholders in the agricultural sector, including higher institutions, development partners, and local communities, to work in synergy to end hunger, improve nutrition, and secure a better future for all.
