In a bid to advance the academic pursuit of Abia indigenes in medicine and its related disciplines,Abia State government has announced plans of entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Newcastle University Australia for post graduate students of Abia origin.
Governor Ikpeazu announced this when he received in audience five out of six Abia students who where recipients of the 2015/2016 Presidential Honours Award of the National Youth Service Corps.
The Governor stated that the state government will take responsibility of fifty percent of the cost payable by beneficiaries of the programme in Australia.
He expressed satisfaction that Abians are known for excellence where ever they find themselves and commended the students for being good ambassadors of the state in their respective places of primary assignments.
A former Aide to the Governor on Youth and Job creation, Mr Chinenye Nwaogu, while presenting the National Awardees to Governor Ikpeazu said that the six awardees who made the state proud during their service years have been given automatic employment in the federal civil service and scholarship by the Presidency.
Miss Uduma Eberechi from Ohafia Local Government Area who spoke on behalf of other awardees, noted that under Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Abia students have continued to perform exceptionally in national and external examinations and promised that they will keep making the state proud in their future endeavors.
The awardees include; Okechi Ubachi -Ikwuano,Kingsley Kalu Njoku -Ohafia, Monday Raphael Johnson -Ukwa East, Ogbonna Chidiebere -Isuikwuato and Emmanuel Ekeoma -Obingwa.
