As the lockdown order in Abia state to contain the spread of the COVID 19 Pandemic marks it’s sixth day, the state government says it will commence the fumigation of markets and other public places in the state within the next 24 hours.
This is even as the government is set to commence the distribution of relief materials to the indigent members of the society.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu disclosed this after inspecting relief materials procured for distribution to the less privileged in the state.
In his words,”During this period, we are going to fumigate our markets and that programme will commence in 24 hours from today and we will also provide along with food items, face marks and sanitizers”.
According to the Governor, about seventy percent of the less privileged Abians and their household are targeted at the first instance, while
the distribution would be done from tomorrow Tuesday, through selected churches, mosques and community leaders who can identify the indigent ones in their midst.
“Starting from tomorrow,(Tuesday) the committee in charge of this distribution will effectively begin the distribution of these items to various churches and mosques.
We are going to take six churches at a time.
“Whatever we provide, we ask that our people will take it and augment with whatever they have, it will go a long way to alleviate the problems and challenges that our people are going to experience within this period, Ikpeazu said.
He further disclosed that a review will be done on the lock down which has lasted for six days now and thanked Abians and other well spirited individuals for donating generously to cushion the effect of the pandemic.
Items to be distributed include rice, beans, garri, tin tomatoes, tubers of yam among others.
