Abia govt to clamp down on substandard school buildings across the state

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has said his administration will clamp down on substandard school buildings across the state.

This is in a move to forestall collapse of school buildings as well as ensure the safety of lives of students and pupils.

Governor Ikpeazu stated this after inspecting two model schools built by his administration at Abayi Umuocham Primary and Secondary School in Osisioma Local Government as well as Osusuamaukwa Primary and Secondary School in Obingwa Local Government Area.

He described the school building collapse in Lagos which led to the death of innocent children and teachers as unfortunate noting that the pupils lost their lives in the hands of substandard contractors.

He pointed out that henceforth his administration will lay emphasis on the quality of school buildings across the state and enjoined contractors to deliver nothing less than the expected standard.

While noting that his administration has rehabilitated 340 schools across the state with 4 model schools already completed,Governor Ikpeazu said the model schools are replete with adequate equipments including solar powered e-library, play field, laboratories and conducive learning environment.

The Governor who regretted that hoodlums have access to school premises, destroy equipments and in most cases cart away science laboratory equipments assured that government will henceforth deploy security operatives to ensure adequate security in the schools adding that emphasis would be made on developing grassroot sports across the schools.

According to the governor,his administration will build model schools in each of the seventeen Local governments areas of the state.
