Abia govt set to conduct Local Govt Polls.

Abia State Government is set to conduct Local Government elections in all the 17 LGAs of the state on or before September 30th, 2020.

This was part of the resolutions of the State Executive Council at its meeting held on Thursday, 20th February, 2020 at the Executive Chambers of Government House, Umuahia.

The Council directed the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) to provide details of the cost and required logistics needed for the conduct of the local government elections in all the 17 LGAs of the state.

Recall that for some years now, the state has not conducted polls to elect officials at the third tier of government as the last local government poll was conducted in 2016.

The conduct of the polls will deepen democracy at the local government level and ensure accelerated and even development across the state as well as spread democratic participation and dividends.
