The Abia State government has revealed its commitment to addressing the woes of commuters by embarking on palliative work to fix the failed portions of the Aba-Obigbo expressway.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu made the announcement while briefing Journalists following the outcome of the recent Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
The Commissioner said that the development is the outcome of a crucial meeting between Governor Alex Otti and the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, during his visit to the state.
He further revealed that announced that the state government would soon commence extensive palliative work on the Umuahia -Ohafia,muahia- Uzuakoli roads in addition to the ongoing palliatives efforts to improve streets and roads within Umuahia, the state capital.
He said that four newly constructed roads including Jubilee, Umuimo, Old Express and Udeagbala roads all in Aba would be commissioned as soon as fitting of street lights is concluded and added that the newly constructed roads are testaments to the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure.
Addressing the ongoing demolition of structures along Okpara Square-Ossah-Abia Tower road, Prince Kanu confirmed that the majority of claimants have already received their compensation while the remaining few awaiting compensation are reportedly facing delays due to bank-related issues, which are expected to be resolved promptly.
Contributing, the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, revealed that Abia delegates are set to participate in the 18th Abuja Trade Fair on the 6th of this month where they would showcase the immense potential and investment opportunities within the state.
He said the accredited Abia delegates, comprising real traders, are enthusiastic about attracting investments to Abia and fostering economic growth.
Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Kenechukwu Nwosu, emphasized the government’s commitment to the education sector and highlighted that interventions in education sector would be driven by needs assessment, with a strong focus on protecting school infrastructure from vandals through community-based policing.
Kenechukwu said the Governor has also directed the Ministry of Education to commence the process of reclaiming school lands that have been encroached upon in the past.
In his contribution, the General Manager of the Urban and Community Development Agency (UCDA), Mr. Kingsley Agomoh assured the public that the ongoing demolition exercise along Ossah-Abia Tower expressway is being conducted with a human face and attributed any delays in compensation for affected individuals to incorrect bank details, and added that efforts are underway to rectify these issues promptly.
