Following the growing concerns emanating from the distant postings of newly recruited teachers in Abia State, the State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, has set up a committee to review posting of the newly recruit, particularly the married women.
In an interview with Newsmen in Umuahia, the Executive Chairman of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Mrs Lydia Ezihe Onuoha, said the review committee was set up, as a result of the challenges surrounding the posting, where 80 percent of the new recruits were married and 20 percent single.
She said the committee is careful to review the posting of married applicants, so that the recruitment will not separate families, adding that the ASUBEB is redoing the posting to ensure married women are given due consideration.

“We are working hard to ensure married women are given schools that are close to where they reside. We are redoing distant postings that have been made, making the necessary corrections and I advise everyone to be calm, everything is under control, at the end of the day, everyone will smile”.
The Executive Chairman, called on all successful candidates to remain calm, as the review committee is working to ensure successful candidates are posted to locations very close to where they reside, so it would reduce the level of stress and as well as, expenses.
She restated that the ASUBEB was working tirelessly to ensure that successful candidates get schools that would be close to where they reside. “We will work it out”, She said.
Mrs Onuoha further pointed that the teachers recruitment review committee has prepared the new posting plan to accommodate married women that were initially posted to very distant Local Government Areas and called for volunteers among the newly recruits who are willing to go to these distant LGAs.
She, however, commended the magnanimity of the State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, for approving special allowances to teachers who would be willing to go to these hard- to-reach locations, while appreciating the Governor for creating employment and as well, sustaining it.
The Executive Chairman, equally appreciated the Board members and the Posting Review Committee for their efforts in ensuring a smooth run of the posting, which she said would materialize when the teachers resume a new session in September 2025.
