The Abia State Government has restated its commitment to strengthening security across the State with the donation of operational vehicles to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA and the Nigerian Immigration Service
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Navy Commander MacDonald Unah (Rtd.), stated this at Government House Umuahia, on Tuesday, while handling over two Hilux vehicles to the Commander of the NDLEA, Mr Joseph Owoputi, and one operational vehicle to the Controller of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Abia Command, Mrs Justina Owe.
Ubah, represented by the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Abia State Homeland Security Agency, Colonel Chidi Kalu Ukoha (Rtd.), stressed that security is a major priority for the Governor Alex Otti led administration.
“Security is the catalyst for every other activity, as socio-economic activities cannot take place in an insecure environment.
“Dr Alex Otti holds security of lives and properties very dear and is doing everything possible to ensure that the state is very secure”, Ubah said.
He explained that the vehicles were provided to enhance the mobility of security agencies in tackling crime and to “nip crime in the bud, assuring that government would continue to support Federal Agencies in achieving their strategic and operational objectives in the state.
In her response, the NIS Controller, Mrs Justina Owe, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for the gesture, describing it as timely and encouraging.
She pledged that the agency would redouble its efforts and raise the bar in service delivery.
“And as you know, there are a lot of people that we call outsiders, and it’s immigration that detects who a Nigerian is.
“We promise we will not disappoint. With this, I’m very delighted, It’s a very good omen that I’m going to do a very good job in Abia”, she said.
Also speaking, the NDLEA Commander, Mr Joseph Owoputi, applauded the Governor for what he described as a timely intervention adding that the command would utilize the vehicle provided to reduce drug abuse in the state assuring that they will leave no stone unturned in bringing crime to its nearest minimum.
