Abia State Government has reacted to the trending video where a PDP Stalwart, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya was seen pouring libation while stating that no Ngwa man will become Governor of the state in 2023.
Reacting to the controversy, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka, in a press statement made available to Newsmen described the action of Chief Ogbonnaya as “outrightly outlandish” adding that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu “would not be dragged into meaningless and mundane ethnic politics”.
He said; “Governor Ikpeazu is very firm and uncompromising in his belief that at every time, God will remain God and cannot be influenced by libations nor the mere wishes of an ordinary mortal.
Part of the press statement reads this; “There has been a lot of activities around the issue of who succeeds Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2023. The activities have ranged from the normal to the ridiculous and even to the outrightly outlandish.
“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s position on the issue of 2023 is very clear and under no circumstances would he, nor the high office he occupies, be dragged into meaningless and mundane ethnic politics.
“As the momentum towards the 2023 elections increase, the issues that will define who the next Governor will be will remain competence, experience, pedigree and fear of God”.
He therefore urged Abians, especially the political class, to remain calm and allow the political process to continue to play its role noting that at the end of the day, God will give Abians a worthy successor to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
