Abia Govt Rallies Obingwa Residents to Embrace Upgraded Nenu Specialist Hospital, Poised for Medical Tourism Boom.


The Abia State government has called on people of Obingwa and its environs to effectively make use of the Nenu Specialist Hospital, an annex of Abịa State University Teaching Hospital that is located at Nenu in Obingwa Local Government Area of the State.

The call was made by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ogbonnaya Uche, represented by the Chief Medical Director of
Abịa State University Teaching Hospital Aba, Prof. Uzoma Nduka, during a facility tour of the hospital.

According to the Commissioner, the edifice has expanded beyond what was envisioned at the inception of the partnership through the signing of an MoU between ABSUTH and Nenu community on the specialist hospital.

He commended the reception of the community from inception till date as the people continue supporting them even as he disclosed that from inception of the partnership, ABSUTH has scaled through all their accreditations, while describing the partnership as one that has yielded desired results and as such, has come to stay.

While itemizing sophisticated equipment in the hospital to include ECG, theatre, labour Ward, ultrasound Scan, among others, he argued that such equipment are not commonly seen in most hospitals in a rural setting

He therefore encouraged Nenu people, as well as people from the environs to make use of the facility saying they cant have such and yet won’t utilize the healthcare services offered

Speaking, the Mayor, Obingwa Local Government Area, Honourable Maxwell Nwadike,
said he saw remarkable updates from what he saw the last time he was there and described it as transformative improvement, just as he commended the entire community, but specifically, Dr. Chris Akomas for the edifice, saying that one can hardly see this type in any local government area.

While hoping that the people of the area and environs will utilize services rendered in the hospital, he predicted that sooner than later, the community will witness a rise in medical tourism of the area, even as he described Dr. Chris Akomas, the current National Chairman of Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria, as an Iroko tree that needs to remain standing for a long time to come because of his inputs in the development of his community.

In his remarks during the occasion, the National Chairman of Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria, Dr. Chris Akomas expressed gratitude to God for the collective efforts and support of Nenu people, while emphasizing that the vision is getting clearer, with an Automated Laboratory that is functional, as well as a pharmacy stocked with drugs, in place, even as he described what is on ground as wonderful.

The former deputy governor of the state promised that other equipment like MRI, is billed to be installed very soon even as he invited people to come and have the best medical services at the hospital, while disclosing that the vision of the health facility started very early when he told them that the facility won’t be a health Centre but a General Hospital.
