Abia State Government has announced the reintroduction of sanitary inspectors across the State as part of effort to sustain environmental cleanliness and public health.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday while briefing Journalists on the outcome of the this week’s Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu said that the initiative, which aligns with the Abia State Clean-Up Initiative, is aimed at maintaining the remarkable progress achieved in sanitation, particularly in Aba, which was once regarded as one of the dirtiest cities in Nigeria.
He emphasized that the reintroduction of sanitary inspectors is a deliberate effort by the State government to ensure a clean environment, prevent disease outbreaks, and promote the overall well-being of residents.
“The State Government understands that a clean environment plays a major role in the over all health and well being of the citizenry.
“Of Course the State Government has recorded tremendous achievement in keeping the environment clean.
“Abia Streets, particularly the streets of Aba were hitherto regarded as very dirty, infact the dirtiest in the country with the heaps of waste, have been turned to very clean all within a number of months that this Government has been in power.
“So this achievements has been as result of the deliberate efforts of the State Government through the State Ministry of Environment and ASEPA to keep our environment clean.
“Consequently to maintain this trajectory of cleanliness the State Government is very deliberate in reintroducing the health inspectors to come and midwife that process and of course this health inspectors will ensure that our environment is clean to the prevent outbreak of diseases associated with very dirty environment”, Prince Kanu stated.
He said that the initiative would be spearheaded by the State Ministry of Environment and the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA).
