Abia Govt Gears Up To Host Education Conference… Sets Up Committee

A Seven Member Inter- Ministerial Committee for the hosting of the 82nd Plenary meeting of the Joint Consultative Committee on Education(JCCE) billed to hold in Umuahia,Abia State has been inuagurated by the Abia State Government.

 

The JCCE meeting; a forum that brings together delegates from the Federal Ministry of Education and it’s parastatals, ministries of Education from 36 states of the federation affords opportunity for major stakeholders to share views and discuss issues affecting the Education Ministry in Nigeria would hold from 9th to 13 August.

The Committee which is headed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba has its membership to include, the Commissioner for Education, Prof Uche Eme Uche, Commissioner for Health, Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo and Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Chaka Chukwumereije.

Other members are, the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Dr Chimezie Ukaegbu, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu as well as the Director in Charge, Ministry of Education.

Inaugurating the committee members on behalf of Governor Alex Otti at Government House Umuahia, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba underscored the importance of Education to the present administration noting that it is a key pillar for the transformation of any society.

He further described education as one of the key policies of the Dr Alex Otti led administration hence the declaration of a state of emergency on the Education sector alongside other critical sectors of the Abia economy.

Ajagba who noted that the committee members have been found worthy to plan the hosting of the event, charged them to take their assignment serious and give their best.

Without education, a people would remain in abject poverty and underdevelopment. So it is not a coincidence that the Joint Consultative Committee on Education is to be hosted by Abia State and this happens once in every 36 years.

We must understand that this is a very important task that we are faced with as policies and programs that would be outlined during that plenary session would drive education all through the 36 states including the FCT Abuja for quite some time“,Ajagba stated.

In an acceptance speech on behalf of other members of the committee, the Commissioner for Education, Prof Uche Eme Uche thanked Governor Alex Otti for accepting to host the 82nd plenary of the Joint Consultative Committee on Education inspite of challenges faced by the state government.

Prof Uche noted that the Education conference with the theme; “Addressing The Challenges Of Policy Implementation: A Panacea For Achievement Of Education 2030 Agenda”, would benefit stakeholders as it would afford them opportunity to form new strategies that can be adopted to achieve the 2030 Education plan for the state.

She announced that plans are underway to revamp the Education sector in the state especially in areas of facilities, training and retraining of teachers to ensure that the Abia Education system remains top notch and assured that the committee members would put in their best to make the state proud.
