Abia Govt Begins Demolition of Shanties and Relocation of Illegal Motor Parks

Abia State Government has commenced the massive removal and demolition of shanties, as well as the dismantling of illegal motor parks, along the Abia Tower axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway and the Amachara axis.

Speaking during the exercise, the General Manager of the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA), Mr. Kingsley Agomoh, stated that the operation aligns with the government’s commitment to enhancing the aesthetics of the state and ensuring orderliness in public activities.

He explained that the owners of the illegal motor parks and shanties were duly informed and given notices to remove them and relocate their activities to the Ohiya Trailer and Bus Terminal at Ohiya.

The UCDA General Manager emphasized that the government would no longer tolerate the operations of illegal motor parks or the erection of shanties, as they detract from the beauty of the state capital.

He directed trailer and bus operators, as well as other transporters, to move to the Ohiya Trailer and Bus Terminal, which he described as a conducive location for their activities. Mr. Agomoh clarified that the exercise was not targeting any specific individuals but was in the best interest of the state.

Mr. Agomoh also highlighted the ongoing transformation of infrastructure in the state, citing numerous projects embarked upon by the current administration that have significantly improved the physical outlook of the state.

He urged citizens to support the present administration, which he noted has demonstrated genuine efforts toward the development of the state.
