Abia governor’s wife hailed over 150 houses for indigents

The former Transitional Committee Deputy Chairman, Ukwa East, Local Government Area, (LGA), Abia State, Hon Lady Cecilia C. Okere has applauded the wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Okezie Ikpeazu ,for building over 150 houses for the indigent women ,as well as catering for the downtrodden in the society.

Fielding questions from National Ambassador, recently in Umuahia, Abia State, Lady Okere commended Mrs Ikpeazu for championing the course of the poor through her various welfare programmes and policies.
She said: “The governor’s wife, Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu, had on several occasions, personally offset the hospital bills of indigent patients in various hospitals in the state. She also provided money, food materials, clothes and household items to financially-distressed patients, especially nursing mothers who underwent through multiple births,in order to alleviate their sufferings”.
Lady Okere pointed out that Mrs Ikpeazu, through her pet project; Vicar Hope Foundation, has been on the frontline in the fight against sickle cell anaemia disease, and the preservation of families via provision of pre-marital counseling, among high school and undergraduate students.
She added that the governor’s wife campaign on Breast cancer awareness project (Bre CAP), Diabetes Awareness Project (DAP), among others, are yielding results, as well as building capacity for women.
According to her, “It is worthy to note that the free school-feeding programme, under the supervision of Mrs Ikpeazu, has increased school enrollment among Abia pupils, whereas several scholarships have been given to many indigent students in the state”.
Lady Okere, who is also the Abia State Financial Secretary of National Council of Women Society (NCWS), further revealed that Abia women, under Gov. Ikpeazu’s dispensation, had been given a voice through various appointments and positions that eluded them in the past.
She listed the prominent positions women occupy in Abia to include: justices, magistrates, commissioners, permanent secretaries, board members, education secretaries, secretary to some LGA (SECLOG) senior special assistants (SSA), special assistants (SA), among others.
Lady Okere further described Mrs Ikpeazu as a woman with a listening ear, adding that her recent visit to Abia State House of Assembly, to support Child’s Right Law, Disability Law, Widow Practice Law and her fight against rape had endeared her to Abians and Nigerians at large.
The woman leader urged Abians to continue to support Gov. Ikpeazu and his wife, insisting that Abians have never enjoyed dividends of democracy in this fashion before.
