Abia government to establish state drug law control committee

The wife of Abia state Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has been recognised as an icon of advocacy on war against drug abuse in the state by the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The recognition came, based on her intense creation of awareness and sensitization programmes on dangers of drug addiction and advocacies to eradicate it in the society.

Acknowledging the recognition, Mrs. Otti said that the issue of drug abuse in the society is becoming worrisome that if something drastic is not done to eradicate it the society will pay for it.

She thanked the NDLEA for this recognition adding that the war on illegal substances is so serious that Abia state government is committed to eradicate.

“While we are working to establish the state drug law control committee, we will also do same at the local government areas so that no place is left for this illegality to continue” she said.

Meanwhile, I have taken note of your challenges in terms of mobility, rehab centre and I assure you that the Governor will support you to do your work seamlessly.

Earlier, the Commandant, NDLEA Abia State, Adetunji Amos Adelanwa, said that they came to update the wife of the Governor and to deliberate on the best approach to eradicate drug abuse in Abia state.

Adetunji, worried that so many youths are going into drugs this days call on governments to scale up its advocacy to sensitize the youths on health hazard of drug abuse.

However, the commandant solicits for vehicles for ease of operation, office space and upgrade of rehab centre in Umuahia because the one in Aba is over stretched.
