Abia Government Launches 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem

The Abia State Government has launched the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem. This marks the official start of activities for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The ceremony took place at the Aguiyi Ironsi Conference Centre in Umuahia. The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Kenneth Kalu, urged citizens to remember and honour the bravery and sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes. He was represented at the event by the Acting SSG, Dr Emmanuel Meribole.

 

Professor Kalu praised the men and women of the Armed Forces for their sacrifices, which he said have helped to maintain peace and stability in the country. He explained that the launch of the emblem reminds everyone of their duty to promote peace, unity, and togetherness in Abia State and Nigeria as a whole.

He also restated the Abia State Government’s commitment to peace, security, and the welfare of security personnel. He assured that the government would continue to work with security agencies, traditional rulers, religious groups, and community leaders to improve security and unity across the state.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Godwin Okezuo, said the event was meant to remind people of the courage and dedication of those who defended Nigeria. He called on all stakeholders to support the remembrance activities.

Dr Okezuo explained that the emblem launch officially begins the activities for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. He added that the emblem represents the sacrifices made by fallen heroes in service to the nation.

 

In a vote of thanks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Commander Macdonald Uba (Rtd), said the launch marks the start of several activities for the remembrance celebrations. He thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the event.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Abia State, Lt. Colonel Stanley Odionyenfe, represented by the Vice Chairman, Chief Okereke Samuel, encouraged citizens and organisations to support the programme.

The event included the decoration of the Acting SSG, Dr Emmanuel Meribole, and other dignitaries. It was attended by representatives of security agencies, government officials, and other stakeholders.
