The Abia state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has commended the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nigeria, for impacting on the lives of Nigerians to the tune of 188 million dollars.
Governor Ikpeazu who dropped the commendation during the 2019 “Light The World” campaign, an annual programme of the church, held at the Umuahia stake Centre of the church, said his government would always support the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the role they play in touching lives, urging other churches to emulate them.
Thegovernor who was represented by his Chief of staff, Dr. ACB Agbazuere, said what the church is doing generally today is in tandem with the policies of government, adding that if crime must be cut down in the society, then the number one place to start, is the church.
In his keynote address, the keynote speaker, Chief ACB Agbazuere, said the theme ‘ Light the World’, is apt,as it would bring the person of Jesus to bare especially this season that Christians all over the world are preparing for the celebration of His birth.
According to Chief Agbazuere, God decided to light the world through Christ and as such, you cannot talk about lightening of the world without juxtaposing it with the person of Christ.
He said Christians should be like Christ(Light) in all their dealings and as a matter of fact, they should reflect light wherever they find themselves, both in character and in deeds.
The chief of staff pointed out that as Christians, we should neglect all actions that depict darkness like cheating, stealing, killing among others, as we cannot claim that we are children of light and still toy with sin.
While commending the church for choosing the theme, he advised christians to use the yuletide season to reflect Christ, drive carefully and avoid drinking while driving.
Earlier the Public Affairs Director of the church, Bro Ikpe Nkanang, said the Light the world campaign is a worldwide initiative of the church to invite people, both members and non-members, irrespective of religious affiliation, race or tongue to serve and give as Jesus Christ did.
Bro Nkanang said from Dec Ist – 25th, Christians have been advised to use the season to show acts of kindness ranging from giving to the less priviledged, sharing of gifts to family members, praying for someone, cheering people up and inviting them to attend Christmas worship.
He said the church has put up 25 simple steps to follow each day till the 25th of December, urging everyone to key into it.
The Public Affairs Director further disclosed that the church has spent over $188 million on charity in Nigeria, with some of their people oriented projects scattered across Abia state, including the Amaeke Item water project, free eye surgery in Aba, provision of clean water and renovation of some Abia poly structures, as well as the construction of Okpwumuoba road and the waterside bridge among others.
