Abia state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu says he is committed to providing primary health care facilities for all Abians.
Governor Ikpeazu stated this while receiving in audience a delegation from the Abia State Health Insurance Agency and a team from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) sponsored Health Policy Plus at Government House Umuahia.
The Governor assured of his commitment to the provision of resources needed for the program to take off as well as the moral and political impetus.
He noted that his administration aims at increasing the life expectancy of Abians above the national average and has evolved strategies which would take care of the vulnerable,aged as well as mother and child care.
Ikpeazu added that interventions in the healthcare sector by his administration including the stand-by Emergency Health Care unit in the Abia State Passengers Integrated Manifest and Safety Scheme (ASPIMSS), State’s digital Healthcare line also known as Abia State Dial a Doc program among others are for the health benefits of the citizens.
Governor Ikpeazu called for support from the USAID and its collaborating agencies and pledged his support towards the project.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation Prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa stressed the need to officially launch the Health Insurance Scheme in the state so as to enable the state government reap its benefits.
Also the National Director of the Health Policy Plus a project anchored by the USAID, Mr. Onoriode Ezeire while stressing the importance of investing in health care insurance,noted that the availability of the take off grant will kick-start the project adding that over 120,000 Abians are expected to benefit from the project.
