Abia Fulani community sued over peaceful coexistence with hosts

The Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor, Dr. ACB Agbazuere has charged the Fulani community in the State to maintain peace and tranquility in their host communities.

Agbazuere gave the charge when he received a delegation of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria,(MACBAN) Abia State chapter, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

He appreciated them for coming to show solidarity to the Ikpeazu led administration in the State.

Agbazuere while stressing the need for peaceful coexistence with their host communities said there is no need for quarrels among fellow Nigerians as both Christian faithfuls and adherents of Islam believe in peaceful and harmonious living.

The Chief of Staff called on all farmers and herders in the State to ensure that nobody attacks one another but report all offences arising from possible destruction of farm lands or killing of cattles to the nearest Divisional Police Officer (D.P.O).

He explained that the State government constituted a Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee,whose mandate is to resolve cases arising from such conflicts.

While warning that nobody should take laws into their hands,Agbazuere said that Abia State remains the most peaceful State in the country and would want to maintain the record and emphasized the need for proper channelling of anger either to the leadership of the Miyetti Allah or the Police assuring that government would arrange a town hall meeting as requested by the Fulani community resident in the state.

In his speech, the Chairman, Muslim Welfare Board, Alhaji Musa Iheakaram said the team came to show solidarity to the government of the State and assured that they will maintain peace in the State.

According to him,the Muslim community in the state is willing to assist the state government generate revenue through payment of their Hajj fees as against paying to neighbouring States.

Earlier, the spokesman of the association, Alhaji Ahmed Baba explained that the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Abia State chapter is an umbrella body of all Fulanis living and doing business in the State.
