Abia first lady charges members, staff of Abia State Cash Transfer Unit

The wife of Abia State Governor Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu has charged members and staff of Abia State Cash Transfer Unit to ensure that their programme meets the needs of the target group.
The Governor’s wife made the charge when management of the state cash transfer unit paid her a courtesy visit in her office  at Government House Umuahia.
According to her, “in this state, we are very interested in the welfare of all Abians, so whatever programme we attract is for the good of Abians”. However, the Abia First Lady said that in as much as the programme has been flagged off in six local government of the state, she would want within the shortest period to domesticate it in all the LGA’s of the state.
She also promised to look into the request of the agency adding that the ones she cannot provide would be referred to the state Governor.
Earlier, the Focal Person, Mr. Chinenye Nwogu, explained that Abia State Cash Transfer Unit under the social investment programme of the federal government is a component of social investment designed to uplift the poor, aged and the vulnerable out of poverty.
According to him, “our field officials are working hard to get accurate data of those this programme is designed for by going to community by community identifying them”.
Also, Head Unit, State Cash Transfer Unit, Mr. Okeziem Nwoko, said that the state has been working hard in meeting the conditions stipulated by the World Bank to transfer monthly stipend to the poor of the community in the State.
According to him, “the Governor has been magnanimous in providing our monthly running costs.
However, like Oliver Twist we would always be coming to you for assistance as it is now we do not have office vehicle to effectively reach out to communities we are already working in.
