Abia First Lady Advocates For Exclusive Breastfeeding

Abia State Governor’s Wife, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, said that she is pleased to partner with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, World Health Organization, E-Health Africa, John Slow Incorporated among others to better the health of Abians.

The Governor’s wife stated this when the health partners paid her a courtesy visit in her Government House Office in Umuahia today.

According to her, “Abia state government under Governor Otti, has declared emergency on health institutions of the state, so we are working assiduously to upgrade the health facilities in the state for Abians to have access to good health” she said.

However, our focus now is advocating for exclusive breastfeeding which is good for the infant and the mother.

The leader of the group, Mrs. Meg Onwu, said the advocacy visit is to intimate the Governor’s wife on the activities of the ministry of health towards sensitising women on the benefit of exclusive breastfeeding and the role of the partner agencies.

Mrs. Meg expressed that Abia will be joining the global community to advocate for exclusive breastfeeding from the state level even to the rural areas and would also partner with media agencies to spread the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding to the health of infant babies.

In their good will messages, the state representative National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Mr. Bernard Amaobi, said that the NPHCDA is here to support the state to gain traction in all health related issues.

While the representative of the WHO, Dr. Carol Iwuoha stated that they are on ground to help Abia actualize its set goals on health and will also need the support of the wife of the Governor to make bold statements so that Abia women will be encouraged to key into it.

Other key partners like the E-Health Africa and John Slow Incorporated said that they are on ground to provide technical support and to ensure that every intervention concerning women health issues are actualize.
