Abia farmers drum support for Ikpeazu

Farmers under the aegis of Abia State Apex of Farmers Cooperative Society, have vowed to return the governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for a second tenure come March 2.

The farmers who made this known in Umuahia through their President,Hon Uzoma Nwogwugwu in an interactive session with newsmen, said over 287,000 cooperators in Abia have decided to vote the governor again come March 2, because of his contribution and immense achievements in the Agricultural sector.

According to Nwogwugwu,” over 152,000 cooperators that is,70% of its members have already collected their Permanent Voter Cards and are ready to give their votes to the governor of the state and other PDP candidates”.

Nwogwugwu said governor Ikpeazu is the first governor that has recognized farmers in the state to the point of including them in his government adding that he has commercialised farming by purchasing heavy equipments like bulldozers,tractors and caterpillars, making farming more productive.

Recounting the governor’s achievements in the Agricultural sector, the farmers boss who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Cooperative Rural Development, stated that the governor has been able to set up three poultry clusters across the three senatorial zones, send farmers abroad for training, make fertilizer which is the most important need of a peasant farmer abundant.

While calling on farmers to ensure the governor is re-elected through their votes, said the governor would do more if he is re-elected as already plans have been concluded to make fish the Agricultural product Abia would be known for.

He further urged ndigbo to vote for the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on Saturday, February 16, as he is far better than the incumbent president, describing him as a Nigerian that is detribalised and would return Nigeria to his status quo.
