Abia Emerges Best Performing State In Routine Immunization, COVID-19 Vaccination

The Federal Government through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has named Abia State as the Best Performing State in the South East of Nigeria in Routine Immunisation and COVID-19 Vaccination.

This was contained in a letter dated 15th of August, 2022, addressed to the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, and signed by the Executive Director of National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA, Dr Faisal Shuaib.

According to the letter, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was acknowledged for his “commitment and support towards the performance of Routine Immunization and other PHC services in Abia State and Nigeria in general.”

It further explained that the award was for the State’s performance during the COVID-19 SCALES 1.0 and 2.0 vaccination roll out and expressed optimism that Abia State would maintain its outstanding implementation during the SCALES 3.0.

The Executive Director of NPHCDA, disclosed that the State will receive the award during the celebration of 2022 Africa Vaccination Week (AVW) and commemoration of the Three Years Post Wild Polio Virus Free Certification, scheduled for August 26 at Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton hotel, Abuja.

According to the letter, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Osuji, the Executive Secretary Abia State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Chinagozi Adindu and the State Immunization Officer, will accompany the Governor to receive the award.
