Abia Deputy Governor Cracks Down on Illegal Tax Collectors, Warns Motorists Against Multi-Taxation

Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu, has said that the administration of Gov. Alex Otti remains committed to curbing leakages and stopping multi-taxation in the state.

Engr Emetu who gave the warning when he paid an unscheduled visit to Aba Park in Umuahia North LGA following earlier reports of activities of touts and miscreants who mobilized themselves to extort money from the motorists, stated that no one is authorized to collect any form of revenue that is not directed by the Governor through the SSA on IGR, Mr Chimereze Okeigbo.

He therefore warned motorists and commercial drivers to be mindful of where and to whom they pay their taxes and levies to avoid multi-taxing or paying into the wrong quarters.

The Deputy Governor lamented the unfortunate scenario where some individuals are sabotaging the State’s economy by extorting fines and levies from drivers and motorists and disclosed that the Dr Alex Otti’s led Government has launched the new digital tax system which provides easy payment options for both transporters and traders, thereby promoting transparency in the system.

Engr Emetu further used the opportunity to caution roadside traders and tricycle operators around Ishi Gate who have almost covered the road with their wares to maintain a reasonable distance from the road to avoid congestion and road blockage

In his address earlier the Chairman of Abia Line Network, Mr. Chukwudi Ike expressed gratitude to the Deputy Governor for his prompt response and intervention on the matter while pledging the support of transporters to Dr. Alex Otti’s led administration.
