Abia BPP Presents 2025 Draft Estimate, Seeks Approval for Quality Service Delivery

The Head of the Due Process and Public Procurement Bureau, Dr. Oluebube Chukwu, has stated that the only way the State Ministry of Budget and Planning can support the agency in generating more revenue for the State Government is by approving its budgetary plans.

Dr. Chukwu made this statement while speaking with newsmen shortly after the Bureau’s 2025 Draft Estimate presentation at the Ministry of Budget and Planning. He acknowledged that the Ministry is doing a great job coordinating the entire budgetary systems of the MDAs and the state at large, noting that for the Bureau under his leadership to perform optimally, it requires the necessary support through budgetary approvals.

According to him, last year and this year have been focused on laying a solid foundation for the Bureau.

“We have been establishing a proper background and a clear-cut foundation for the years ahead. We intend to carry forward the registration of contractors and vendors among other responsibilities.

“We aim to enhance proper procurement for the State and formulate policies that will guide procurement in the State.

“We also intend to deepen the roles of the Bureau as enshrined in the 2012 Act that established it.

“Hence, we need more support and partnerships from the appropriate quarters,” Dr. Chukwu said.

Earlier, the SSA to the Governor on Due Process informed that his Bureau was at the Ministry of Budget and Planning to perform the yearly ritual of presenting the Draft Estimate for the 2025 fiscal year to the Ministry for checks and balances before moving to the State House of Assembly for final approval.

While highlighting the importance of the Bureau’s Draft Estimate presentation, Dr. Chukwu stressed that the Bureau has several short- and long-term goals to accomplish in the coming years and added that the only way to actualize them is by making an estimate of those needs and submitting it to the appropriate authorities for approval and implementation.

The Due Process Chief, however, commended the State Ministry of Budget and Planning for its significant responsibilities in ensuring that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) function optimally in their 2025 appropriations.

He, therefore, appealed to the Ministry of Budget and Planning that the only way to support its existence is by approving the Bureau’s request in the 2025 Draft Estimate.
