Abia Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji

The Abia State House of Assembly has successfully screened and confirmed the Transition Committee Chairmen of the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State with a charge to concentrate on activities that will move the State forward.

Announcing this at its plenary today, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, earlier warned the Transition Committee Chairmen and subsequent political appointees that would pass through the House of Assembly for screening that the 7th Assembly would no longer tolerate any act of insurbordination or neglect on its directives.

He urged them to focus fully on payment of salaries and pensions of the local government workers and adequate funding of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, adding that it is not going to be business as usual.

Lending their voices, the majority Leader of the House, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, and his Deputy, Hon. Paul Taribo, advised the TC Chairmen appointees to be properly guided by the extant rules of the House with a view to be economical in their spending and warned them not to spend funds without proper clearance from the House of Assembly.

They, however, cautioned them that the 7th House of Assembly will not condone laxity or protect them in that regard adding that they should pay utmost attention to activities and projects that will promote Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration and move the State forward.
