Abia Assembly Commiserates with Nigerian Army Over Loss of Soldiers, Passes Vote of Confidence in Gov Otti, Deputy

The Abia State House of Assembly has condemned the recent gruesome attack on security personnel on duty in the state by unknown gunmen, describing it as uncivilized and uncalled for.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, expressed the position of the House following a Matter of Urgent Public Importance brought before the Assembly by the member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Obioma. He commiserated with the military hierarchy and the immediate families of the deceased on the unfortunate incident and assured that the State House of Assembly would work in proper consultation with the Executive to address the matter.

The Speaker, while pledging support for the security agencies operating in the state, commended them for showing restraint in the face of such a setback. He further appealed to them to remain professional and to avoid taking revenge on the host community.

Hon. Obioma, while narrating the ugly incident, expressed concern over the killing of the soldiers on duty and the challenges currently faced by the affected community due to the security measures implemented by the military. He pleaded for a relaxation of these measures in the interest of the host community.

The House also passed a vote of confidence in Governor Dr. Alex Otti and his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, for their commendable work in the state.

This decision followed a motion moved by the member representing Ohafia South, Hon. Kalu Nwoke, who expressed delight at the signing into law of the Greater Ohafia Development Agency Bill (GODA) and the inauguration of the Agency. He also expressed confidence in the Agency’s membership.

Hon. Nwoke informed the House of his decision to forgive and move past any misunderstandings he had with his brother, the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, during the council polls in the state. He called for peace and brotherly love.
