The Abia All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Chief Ikechi Emenike has promised to revive the economic vibrancy of Aba.
Chief Emenike who stated this recently during Aba Enyimba City Stakeholders Interactive Session held at Hotel Du Golf, Aba, described Aba as the commercial nerve of Abia state that deserves adequate infrastructural attention.
The event which afforded the APC Governorship candidate the opportunity to interact with the real stakeholders of the economy of the city had in attendance the business Community, pensioners, health workers, teachers, traders, artisans, religious leaders and farmers . The representatives of different ethnic groups who live and work in Aba were not left out in the interactive session.
Chief Ikechi Emenike extolled the hospitable nature of the owners of the city of Aba, which has made it possible for many who sojourned to the city with nothing but were able to make it big in the city.
He appreciated the can do spirit and ingenuity of an Aba person.
Emenike further stated that If elected as the Governor of Abia State that by December of 2023 that he will fully reconstruct Port Harcourt road .
He noted the importance of having a University in a major city like Aba and stated that Aba is the only major city in Nigeria without a University. He promised to convert Abia State Polytechnic to a University within six months of his administration. He went further to state that the teaching hospital in Aba will serve the university in Aba while a new one will be built around Isikwuato axis for ABSU.
He described the university as education and economic centre.
Emenike also stated that one year into his administration that Principals, Headmasters and Headmistresses will be residing inside the school premises as his administration will build quarters for them.
On the welfare of civil servants and retirees he said that his administration will come up with a law that will make any Governor who owes salary/pension for 3 months to automatically cease to be a Governor. He stated that payment of salaries and pensions will not be an achievement in his administration as workers will be paid as at when due.
To help the business community in the state he said that his administration will establish a Merchant Bank in Abia State. Also stated that he will be the Chief marketing officer of made in Abia products. He stated that our shoemakers have the capacity to produce for the military and the para-military agencies in the country and promised that if elected, he will ensure that it happens.
On his plans to decongest the city of Aba, he said that his administration will construct more roads especially those leading to the LGAs close to Aba to make it easier for people to live in those LGAs and come to Aba for their businesses. He stated that with more access roads more business opportunities will also be created in those LGAs.
He stated that his administration will be the first to build a first world State in a third world country.
On the issue of insecurity he said that he will adopt the carrot and stick approach to fight insecurity. He noted that most people who are into crime is as a result of failed government and promised that his administration will create employment for the youths. Those who refuse to take the opportunities that his administration will create and prefer to go into crime will be handled according to the laws of the land.
Those in the entourage of High Chief Ikechi Emenike include the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party Rev Barr Mrs Gloria Akara, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu the state chairman of the party who led other members of the SWC of the party, DG of Ikechi/Gloria campaign council Hon Chief Uche Ogboso.
Hon Dame Blessing Nwagba the Senatorial Candidate of the party for Abia South Senatorial zone, Hon Promise Iheasimuo the candidate of the party for Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency, Lady Jane Ogbauta the candidate of the party for Aba Central State Constituency and Hon Uba Omenazu the party’s candidate for Aba North State Constituency.
The event attracted the presence of some eminent personalities like Mr Chima Onyekwere OON, Rev. Dr. Felix Akara and some professors. Two sons of Late Chief Nnanna Kalu were also in attendance.
