As Abia State marks 30 years of its creation ,leaders have been urged to always appreciate God for His faithfulness.
This call was made by the President Eastern Union Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria, Pastor Bassey E.O Udoh.
Preaching on the topic ” Great is thy faithfulness” Pastor Udoh urged all to draw nearer to God as His soon coming draws nigh.
He said Abia State has every reason to thank God who saved the state from the ravaging and deadly Covid-19, insecurity and economic downturn
Udoh maintained that God’s faithfulness and mercies has prevailed as Abia is experiencing relative peace.
According to Udoh, thanksgiving is an application for more, therefore, the state was right to celebrate God’s benevolence, faithfulness and mercies upon it.
Udoh said ” God has allowed powers to fail in order to show that He is the only saviour of mankind as it is only by His mercies that we are not consumed”.
He ,further urged Abians and leaders to have a rethink and heed to God’s words, adding that God was not an absentee landlord.
He said that inspite of our unfaithfulness God has remained faithful to His promises.
He prayed God not to forsake the Governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, the state and Abians.
In his speech, the Governor who was represented by his deputy ,Sir Ude Oko-Chukwu said the state was celebrating God’s grace upon Abia and its leaders.
Oko-Chukwu said looking back to the days of kidnapping and insecurity in the state which almost crippeld the state’s economy ,the celebration was a way of appreciating God ‘who saw us through’
He said that the state was a work in progress and has developed tremendously judging from where we are coming from.
The deputy governor thanked Pastor Bassey Udoh, the Seventh-day Adventist family and other clergies for their prayers ,urging them not to relent in their intercessory prayers.
He further appreciated Abia founding fathers led by Dr Anagha Ezeikpe for their struggle and tireless efforts in keeping Abia together.
Oko-Chukwu said ‘ there is hope for Abia’
The thanksgiving featured prayer session for the governor, his cabinet and Abians, while the governor made a donation of 2Million naira to support the Church.
The wife Abia State Governor, Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu, Secretary to the State Government Barr Chris Ezem, Abia HOS ,Sir Onyii Wamah, Chief Okey Igwe, Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, political appointees ,clergies, heads of MDA and heads security agencies were in attendance.
