…as PDP Members Stage another Walkout
The drama that has engulfed the 8th Abia Assembly took another twist on Wednesday when some Police and DSS officers were spotted inside the hallowed Chamber while Journalists who monitor proceedings at the Assembly were also denied access to the Chamber.
The 8th Abia House of Assembly, has been faced with leadership challenges and proper interpretation of the Standing order 8, rule 42 since recovening on June 27th, 2023.
Addressing newsmen after they staged another walkout on Wednesday, the member representing Obingwa East State Constituency, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, said this is the first time the Police and DSS Officials, will be in the chambers during plenary.
He said when they spotted their presence and the absence of Pressmen, they became apprehensive and asked the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, to inform the officers to excuse them, and they left.
Akpolunu, informed that when they were about entering into the votes and proceedings of the House for adoption, the 11 PDP members discovered that the names of those House members they have been fighting against was also repeated and called for it to expunged.
He stated that they are not going to be part of the illegality going on in the Assembly, stressing that if the Labour Party leadership in the House, wants to take the position of majority leader, they should also take that of minority leader, maintaining that they will approach the court for interpretation of that part which according to him, is unambiguous to comprehend.
He also added that they staged another walkout during plenary, to register their grievances instead of fighting, emphasizing that they have also made efforts to advise the Speaker to do the right thing, stating that the speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa is handicapped at the moment as he knows that what they are doing is not right but because of forces that are coercing him he is doing their bidding.
On whether the Governor of Abia State Dr. Alex Otti is aware of the situation at the Assembly, Akpulonu said he cannot claim not to be aware as the father of the State, pointing that as the father of the State, he is expected to call them together and issues will be resolved having pledged allegiance to work with him.
