Aba Transport Unions Stage Two-Million-Man March In Honour Of Gov Otti

Aba, the Commercial nerve centre of Abia State, on Thursday, witnessed an unprecedented Two Million-Man March in honour of Governor Alex Otti, in recognition of his transformational leadership and infrastructural development across the state.

The peaceful march organized by members of the Transport Unions brought together members of over 20 Unions, including Transport Associations, Keke Operators, motor Unions, Traders and Artisans all united in their expression of gratitude for what they described as Governor Otti’s visionary and result-driven governance since assuming office.

 


The solidarity procession, commenced at Osisioma Junction and culminated at Asa road.

 

Speaking to Journalists during the Match, the President, Corporative Motor Unions in Abia State, Mr. Azode Chukwuma, commended Governor Otti for what he called “purposeful leadership and a clear development agenda that has renewed the hope of the people of Abia State”.

Azode, described the march as “a show of support for an administration that has continued to prioritize infrastructure renewal, economic empowerment, and the general well-being of citizens”.

 

He emphasized that the match was not politically motivated but driven by goodwill and support for Governor Otti’s progressive policies.

People from different political backgrounds are here because of their love for Dr. Otti and in recognition of the good works he is doing in Abia State.

 

Based on the level of development in Abia State, we are here to show solidarity to His Excellency , to celebrate all his good work in the State.

In terms of performance, he (Governor Otti) has shown great capacity. That is why we are here to celebrate him”, Mr Azode stated.

He lauded the commitment of the Otti led administration to transforming Aba, the commercial nerve center, to attract more investors, with the goal of boosting internally generated revenue that will, in turn, fund the development of other local government areas.

 

The Union President expressed optimism that with the State Government’s ongoing projects, Aba is poised to becoming a world-class city comparable to Dubai.

From what we are seeing on ground today, I think two more years to go, Abia State will look like Dubai in Africa. His Excellency has done great and we are proud of him”, Azode said.

 

While urging Abians to remain steadfast in their support for the Governor, Azode cautioned the opposition against political distractions as 2027 approaches.

“His Excellency should be allowed to enjoy his mandate. For now, any opposition that is coming out is taking a very big risk because we, Abians, are in support of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti.

Contributing the Chairman of the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Mr. Azubike Chigozie, on behalf of the Union, expressed appreciation to Governor Otti for the remarkable transformation taking place in Aba under his administration.

He noted that transport operators including tricycle (Keke), motorcycle, and motor unions—are direct beneficiaries of the Governor’s road infrastructure projects, which have significantly improved access across the city.

Mr. Azubike further pledged the Union’s unwavering support for the Governor’s administration and his future political aspirations.

 

Speaking on the significance of the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Dr. Obioma Nwogbe, noted that the people have genuine reasons to honour Governor Otti for his transformational leadership.

Dr Nwogbe noted that the construction of roads across both urban and rural areas by the present administration was specifically designed to enhance the operations of transporters and ease movement for commuters.

 

The Governor’s Aide revealed that the State Government’s plans for the transport sector extended beyond road infrastructure and revealed that new urban mass transit buses and electric vehicles were expected to arrive the State soon adding that discussions are ongoing with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to develop a multimodal transport system that would integrate road, rail and maritime transport services in the state.
