2019 Budget: Abia Speaker assures speedy passage

The Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.Chikwendu Kalu has assured that the 2019 Appropriation budget would receive prompt legislative action to enable Abia State step into the next level of development.

Speaking shortly after the presentation of the budget at the floor of the Assembly by the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the Speaker of the 6th Assembly described the #130.052billion budget as a special one with a view that it encompasses 2019-2021 financial year.

He noted that it’s necessary because of the modern growth projection characterized by unstable nature of international crude oil price and muscle flexing of the global economic powers.

While acknowledging that frugality is always the problem of managing any economy, Kalu expressed confidence that the 2019 budget has elements of transparency and International principles adding that it would consolidate the State’s economy and would be managed prudently.

Kalu further stated that the budget of consolidation is people centred, economic rejuvenation geared towards agricultural advancement, commercial boost, water supply and Small and Medium Scale Enterprises which according him would drive and develop the economy of the State and SouthEast at large.

In another development the House however, passed into law the 2018 Supplementary Appropriation Bill of about #9.8billion having completed its legislative processes.

According to the legislators, the law would take care of the 2018 Capital and Recurrent Expenditure which would equally help the government functional optimally in its legitimate duties.

Also in the plenary, the House confirmed the appointment of Mr. Okochi Okali Oge as the General Manager of Abia State Road Maintenance Agency, ABROMA, having earlier received a correspondence from the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu appointing him for the position.
