Commissioner speaks on showing love to people living with disabilities

Commissioner for Women Affair and Social Welfare in Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Glory Edet has called on individuals and groups to appreciate the less privileged in the society by showering them with love, care and support.

 

Mrs. Edet made the call during this year’s celebration of persons with disability with the Theme “Disabilities breaking down the barriers”.

 

She said persons with disability needs opportunity in all areas of life to showcase their God’s given talents for equitable and sustainable developments.

The commissioner said the celebration was to make awareness of the gains  associated with the disintegration of disability into every aspect of our social, political, economic and cultural life of our communities, she said that the events was to showcase a collaborative effort between schools, workplaces, business places, individuals, and how to break the disability barriers and celebrate ability.

 

A resource person, Mr.  Francis Bassey who spoke on the theme of the celebration urged the disabled not to be weighed down by their present situation but to make use of every opportunity they have, with the right attitude and character they will break into every pinnacle.

The President, Joint Association of Persons with Disabilities,  Mr.  Offiong Bassey said the governor of the state,  Mr.  Udom Emmanuel has broken the record by identifying with the disabled. High point of the event was the donation of wheelchairs, clutches, sewing machines,  hairdryers, digital recorders to persons with disability.
