Govt determined to turn around health sector in Abia

Governor Okezie lkpeazu of Abia State says govt is determined in its resolve to turn around the health sector by putting in place programmes that will improve the health needs of Abians .

Dr lkpeazu who stated this while declaring open the 2018 physician’s week of the state branch of the Nigeria medical association held at Michael okpara auditorium, Umuahia pointed out that having recognized the need to superintend over healthy citizens, the present administration on inception chose the health sector as one of its five cardinal pillars and have tried to revive the Abia State University Teaching Hospitals as well as made concerted efforts to equip the hospitals to enable them meet the universal required standard.

The Governor represented by his deputy, Sir ude oko chukwu further listed upgrading of the general hospital Amachara ,fulfilling its obligation of payment of counterpart funds, save one million life programme,passing into law the National health insurance scheme and the primary health care under one roof as well as Dial a doctor scheme and introduction of a health care programme for the Elderly persons as some of serious effort govt devised to ensure effective health care delivery in the state.

He described the theme of this year’s physician week : Universal Health Coverage; Learning no one behind; as very apt and lauded health practitioners in the state for their input to make abians healthier while he advised medical practitioners to be more alive to their responsibilities of safeguarding the lives of the people and their profession.

In his opening remarks, the chairman on the occasion and the state chief chief judge, justice Onuoha ogwe called on the medical council to instill discipline among medical practitioners , maintain integrity and encourage them to make their jobs seriously as well as exhibit exemplary conducts in all their functions.

Presenting her address, the state chairman of Nigerian medical association, Dr Ejiro Carol Iwuoha who said the physician week provide them the opportunity to rededicate themselves to the service of humanity, commended the state govt on the improvement in the statistics of the health care policy development and implementation of the health programmes of the present administration.?
