The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has appreciated the Nigerian Army for partnering with his administration in the education sector.
Governor Ikpeazu lauded the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Brutai for being responsive in putting smiles on the faces of the primary school pupils of Onu Primary School, Igbere in Bende LGA through the provision of sports equipments and furniture as well as to re-roofing one of their class rooms.
He said the military through their actions has brought Joy to the school children adding that such gesture would certainly deepen the relationship between the civilian and military in the State.
The Governor who was speaking during the 2018 sports festival of the 82 Division of the Nigeria Army held at Onu Primary school Igbere,pledged the support of his administration to the 82 Division of the Nigeria as it prepares for the forthcoming sports festival of the Nigeria Army.
He said that by the sports event, the army is fit and combat ready for their duties ahead and appreciated the zeal and determination shown in the event, expressing hope that the team would be victorious at the main competition.
Governor Ikpeazu congratulated the G.O.C on the successful hosting of the sports festivals.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding, 82 Division of the Nigeria Army, Major General Emmanuel Kabuk said the festival was an aspect of training intended to prepare participants in the future military engagements.
He maintained that the exercise makes them physically fit to carry out their duties.
Major General Kabuk assured that the Division would continue to do its best to sustain peace and security in the Abia and other States within its jurisdiction.
The General Officer Commanding commended the participants in the event for the high spirit displayed and informed that the winners of the marathon would represent the 82 Division of the Nigeria Army in the forthcoming 2018 sports festival of the Nigeria Army.
The 82 Division Garrison of the Nigerian Army Enugu was the overall first while 14 Brigade Ohafia got second position as 34 Brigade Obinze clinched the 3rd position.
